CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao -- Joint elements of the Army’s 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion and Philippine National Police arrested Friday a suspected drug courier at a checkpoint in Barangay Kanguan, Datu Piang, Maguindanao.
Capt. Arvin John Encinas, speaking for the 6th Infantry Division (6ID), said the arrested suspect, Rocman Pua, 33, of Barangay Kanguan was a wanted drug personality of Datu Piang.
Pua was arrested at a checkpoint after authorities found in his possession a huge sachet of suspected “shabu”, with an estimated street value of PHP25,000, and other drug paraphernalia.
“He (Pua) felt uneasy as he passed by the military-police detachment that led checkpoint personnel to sense something fishy,” Encinas told reporters here on Saturday.
Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, 6ID commander, said in a statement that the military will always be ready to assist the local police in all anti-crime and anti-drug operations, “especially in towns known to have illegal drug personalities.”
Datu Piang Mayor Genuine Kamaong, for his part, lauded the police and military for helping the local government in the fight against illegal drugs.
The suspect is currently detained at the Datu Piang police station as charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Act of 2002 are being readied against him. (PNA)
