Maguindanao town gov’t employee shot dead in Cotabato

COTABATO CITY – Cops are pursuing a lone gunman who shot dead Monday a town employee of Kabuntalan, Maguindanao along a busy section of Sinsuat Avenue here.

Senior Supt. Rolly Octavio, city police director, identified the slain government employee as Tato Gumbila, 40, driver of the municipal treasury office of Kabuntalan.

Gumbila was driving a gray KIA sedan vehicle (MDP-758) and was slowly inching his way into Sinsuat Avenue from the corner of Gonzalo Javier Street when approached by a still unidentified gunman, who fired at him using a .45-caliber pistol.

Police said the victim immediately died from fatal gunshot wounds in the head and body.

“Police field personnel are in pursuit of the killer who was seen fleeing towards the interior of Javier street,” Octavio said, adding that the motive of the killing remains unknown as of this posting.

Gumbila is the second Maguindanao employee killed in this city in the past three days. On Friday, a gunman also shot dead Nasser Gayak, a teacher-employee of the Department of Education–Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao from Pagalungan, Maguindanao, along the corner of Japal Guiani and Jose Lim Sr. streets here.

Police probers also have yet to establish the identity of Gayak’s assailant and motive behind the killing incident. (PNA)
