IMUS CITY, Cavite – Classes were suspended Monday in Cavite’s flood prone and coastal towns and cities due to “moderate, to at times heavy rainfall” warning issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its weather bulletin early Monday morning, PAGASA raised “moderate to at times heavy rainfall” warning in the Calabarzon Region comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon besides Metro Manila, other parts of Luzon and Western Visayas regions due to tropical depression (TD) “Henry.”

In an advisory, information officer Trixia Flores of the Cavite Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO)-Cavite Office of Public Safety said that as of 7:40 a.m. Monday, the towns of Magallanes, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Kawit, Naic, Ternate, and the cities of Bacoor and Cavite have declared no classes.

The affected local government units comprise Cavite’s flood prone, coastal and upland areas.

The class suspension was jointly decided by the local Department of Education, LDRMMOs and municipal mayors as a preventive measure due to the possibilities of flash floods and landslide due to the continuous heavy rains.

While upland Magallanes town suspends classes in pre-school to high school levels only, the rest of the cities, towns’ class suspension applies to all levels.

In an earlier PNA report, TD “Henry”, which was spotted at 440 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan as of 7 a.m. has induced the southwest monsoon, or “habagat”, which affects northern and central parts of the country.

Due to moderate to rough seas, PAG-ASA also advised fisher folks to suspend their fishing ventures over the western seaboards of Luzon. (PNA)
