ILOILO CITY - - The conduct of elections of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) municipal federation in the 42 towns and one component city in Iloilo province went peaceful and orderly.

In an interview Monday, provincial director Teodora Sumagaysay of the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Iloilo said the election of the officers of ABC municipal federation in the province was already done.

A total of 17 candidates, who ran for president, from the towns were unopposed, Sumagaysay said.

Sumagaysay said the election of officers was done through “secret ballot."

The positions, covering the ABC municipal federation, were president, vice-president, auditor and eight board members.

Prior the election, different committees were created such as, nomination, registration and election committees and the board of canvassers to lead the elections.

The members of these committees were not allowed to run for any post, Sumagaysay said.

Meanwhile, Sumagaysay said all the winning presidents in each town will have an automatic seat as board member of the municipal/city board.

“He or she will also automatically be the chairman of the committee on barangay (village) affairs,” she said.

She said they will convene again for the election of ABC provincial federation on July 30.

The filing of certificates of candidacy for those interested to run will be on July 24-26. (PNA)
