CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan -- A suspected carnapper was killed during a  pursuit operation conducted by police operatives along the Bulacan State University diversion road in Barangay Mojon here Sunday night.

Senior Superintendent Chito G. Bersaluna, acting Bulacan police provincial director, identified the fatality based on recovered identification card as Wugner Lopez, 39, a resident of Barangay San Jose, San Fernando, Pampanga.

Based on the report, Nelson Manansala, 55, a resident of Purok 6, Barangay Frances, Calumpit, Bulacan and his son were waiting for his daughter in Sulipan, Apalit, Pampanga at about 8:30 p.m.  when the suspect and another man arrived and forcibly took his white Nissan Sentra GX with plate number UVK 645. The suspects drove towards Calumpit town.

Manansala immediately reported the incident to the Calumpit police.

Lawmen, with the help of the victim, then saw and followed the stolen vehicle and shot the tires but the suspects did not stop and instead continuously drove the vehicle.

The stolen Nissan Sentra was later found abandoned in the middle of a  traffic jam, with the possibility that the suspects boarded a public utility jeep heading towards Malolos City crossing.

The Calumpit police immediately coordinated with the Malolos City police regarding the carnapped vehicle and conducted a pursuit operation.

When the operatives were about to approach the car thieves, Wugner drew and fired his firearm towards the police officer, prompting the operatives to retaliate, resulting in the suspect's death, while his unidentified cohort managed to escape.

The Bulacan Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered from Wugner 10 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu; one Black Widow cal. 22 revolver without serial number loaded with three ammunition and two fired cartridge cases; six 9mm fired cartridge cases; a black wallet containing license card holder; license ID; receipts and other personal documents.
