DUMAGUETE CITY – Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo on Monday called on barangay officials to support the city government’s plans and programs.

“The Liga ng mga Barangay captains has spoken in a very close fight, but I consider all of you as winners,” said the mayor during the election of officers of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC).

“You have different reasons in going either way and the results will greatly affect the future of your barangays and that you are accountable for it,” he added.

Remollo issued the statement in stressing that he has a lot of plans for the barangays but has no time to explain these to every constituent.

“I expect that you also support the plans and programs of the city for the good of everybody,” the mayor said.

Motong barangay chairperson Dionnie Amores won over Daro barangay chief Jovencio Tan Jr. in a very close 16-14 vote for president, the same score for the winning vice president Nelson Ablir of Poblacion 5, who won over Poblacion 1 village chief Harrison Gonzales. Amores and Ablir ran in tandem as well as Tan and Gonzales.

Elected auditor is Bantayan barangay chairman Nerio Grapa. Members of the board are village chiefs Randy Fausto of Tabuctubig; Paciencio Maquiling of Banilad; Anthony Ozoa of Poblacion 3; Ma. Isabel Sagarbarria of Calindagan; Maelene Mariano of Poblacion 8; Greg Oira of Candau-ay; and Pedro Suniega of Poblacion 2.

“I hope they reflected on their own decision because their decision will greatly affect the future of their respective barangays and that of the city if they did not choose their ABC president wisely,” Remollo said in an interview.

He said that the ABC president’s vote in the city council is important in the passage of ordinances and the future of the city’s plans and programs.

“Partisanship is over, it's back to work for all of you, I hope you voted according to your own will, and I will respect your decision,” Remollo pointed out.

For his part, new ABC president Amores said he will try to unify the Liga ng mga Barangays to work as one Liga that is independent in vision and mission. He assured the 29 other barangay chairpersons in front of the mayor that he will support plans and programs that will redound to the benefit of the villages. (PNA)
