MANILA -- Heavy downpour caused by the enhanced southwest monsoon, triggered by Tropical Storm Inday, has affected 40,256 families in 195 barangays in Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the National Capital Region, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its 8 p.m. update Thursday.
The number translates to 162,022 persons affected by the inclement weather.
Of the figure, 858 families or 3,128 persons are now staying in 42 evacuation centers while 33,119 families or 142,527 individuals staying outside evacuation centers are receiving aid.
NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said 18 landslides, flooding, strong winds, and soil and coastal erosions were reported in Central Luzon, Western Visayas, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), and the Cordillera region.
Some 199 barangays, 46 streets and areas were reported flooded in Cavite, Rizal, Valenzuela City, Pampanga, Parañaque City and Occidental Mindoro.
Last July 16, the municipality of Naic, Cavite issued Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 61 series of 2018, declaring 12 of its coastal barangays under state of calamity.
These barangays are Labac, Mabulo, Bancaan, Bagong Karsada, Bucana Malaking, Sapa, Bucana Sasahan, Munting Mapino, Timalan Balsahan, Timalan Concepcion, Balsahan, and Latoria.
No fatality or casualty has been reported as of this posting. (PNA)
