Navy, Cavite rescue units evacuate flood-affected residents

NOVELETA, Cavite -- Navy personnel and Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (LDRRMO) emergency responders assisted evacuated Cavite residents as heavy rains spawned by the southwest monsoon or “habagat” continued to drench low-lying and flood prone areas in Cavite Sunday.

Noveleta Mayor Dino Reyes Chua immediately asked Philippine Navy personnel based in Sangley Point for assistance to rescue flood-affected residents of the town as flood waters reached about three feet deep.

Continuous rains caused Ilang-Ilang River to overflow and submerged several barangays here.

He also advised Noveleta folks to stay safe, especially residents living near Ilang-Ilang River.

Noveleta Red Cross also conducted evacuation procedures as it helped residents move to safer grounds and designated evacuation sites.

Floodwaters were waist-level deep in Barangays San Antonio 1 and 2, San Rafael 1 to 3, San Jose 1 and 2, Poblacion, Salcedo 1 and 2 and Sta. Rosa 1 and 2 which rendered many roads impassable, especially light vehicles.

In the adjacent city of General Trias, the city DRRMO also assisted residents in the flooded barangays of Bacao 1 and 2 Sunday afternoon. CDRRMO emergency responders used rescue bancas to evacuate and transport local folks.

They conducted search and rescue operations as floods triggered a landslide in Barangay Manggahan due to drainage construction and a temporary power glitch when a light post collapsed in Sitio Macuto area, Bacao highway area.

In Bacoor City, floodwaters inundated Barangays Mambog 3 and 4, Uratex, SM, Panapaan 1, 2 and 3 and along Aguinaldo Highway, with water level rising to as high as four to five feet deep in Barangays Panapaan 7 to 5.

Several Ternate barangays also reported minor flooding.
