CEBU CITY -- The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) on Monday turned over the 31 new Toyota Hilux patrol cars to the different police stations in the region.

Police regional director Chief Supt. Debold Sinas said the arrival of the new patrol cars from Camp Crame is part of the PNP National Headquarters’ regular deployment of vehicles.

"There are more to come. This is just the first batch issued to us," the PRO-7 director said.

Before the turnover, Sinas spearheaded the blessing of the 31 patrol cars at the PRO-7 headquarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña Sr. here in Cebu City.

A total of 19 new patrol cars were turned over to the police stations under the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) received 11 and the regional headquarters got one.

"It will help our police to respond to any incident and for the deployment of our foot patrol. In terms of response time, it will depend on the distance but I'm sure it will help lessen the response time," Sinas said.

Sinas said Camp Crame aims to give all police stations at least one police patrol car every year, but the procurement is by batch.

He also clarified that they will still use the old Mahindra patrol cars and encouraged all the police offices in Central Visayas to maintain the vehicles.

"Yes we encouraged them to maintain the Mahindra because it is still a vehicle. We will just use it more on the transport of personnel. That was our agreement," Sinas said. (With Bebie Jane Casipong/PNA)
