ILOILO CITY – Iloilo City and several towns in the province cancelled classes on Monday due to the southwest monsoon heightened by Tropical Depression Josie.

Iloilo City declared class suspension at about 8 p.m. on Sunday due to non-stop heavy rains.

Flooding was also reported on the streets of Jalandoni; De Leon; Fuentes; Sto. Rosario, Duran; Phase 1 Alta Tierra Village; Lapaz Plaza and Calubihan, Jaro, among others.

Meanwhile, the province suspended classes in all levels in the towns of Miagao, Oton, Pavia, New Lucena, San Miguel, Tigbauan, San Joaquin, Dumangas, Leon and Alimodian while Janiuay suspended classes for elementary and secondary levels.

The rise in the water level at the Tumagboc Bridge in Miagao, in addition to heavy rains, also led to the cancellation of classes in the municipality.

The bridge in the town has been temporarily closed to the public to make way for its rehabilitation but the high water levels rendered one of the detour bridges impassable to vehicles.

Meanwhile, the body of nine-year-old Conrado Eula Jr. of Barangay Bangladan, Miagao was recovered at the shoreline of Barangay Cabasi, Guimbal on Monday morning. The boy was believed to have been swept by strong water current in Miagao on Sunday. (PNA)
