BAGUIO CITY -- A former overseas Filipino worker (OFW) lauded President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, describing it as straightforward and full of sincerity.

Maganda, straightforward at sinsero ang speech ng Pangulo (The President’s speech was good, straightforward, and sincere),” said Elizabeth Bolido, 63, a resident of this city, who worked for more than two decades as a janitor in a public school in Sweden.

Bolido admired Duterte’s determination to fight for the welfare of OFWs, pointing out the President’s condemning the “abuse and death of Filipinos in the hands of foreign employers.”

Hanga ako sa determinasyon ng ating Pangulo sa patuloy niyang ipinagla-laban ang karapatan at kalagayan ng bawat OFW (I admire our President for continuing to fight for the rights and welfare of every OFW),” Bolido said. “Malaking bagay sa amin, lalo na ang mga kababayan natin na kasalukuyang nasa ibang bansa upang maihaon lamang nila ang kani-kanilang pamilya sa kahirapan (It’s a big thing for us, especially for those presently working abroad and whose intentions are to lift their respective families out of poverty, ” said Bolido.

Bolido also noted the President’s recognition of OFWs’ contributions to the Philippine economy.

The former OFW has also observed the improved processing system of local passports. “Malaki na rin ang pinagbago sa pagkuha ng passport, mas mabilis na ngayon (Getting passports has improved a lot it has become faster),” she said. (PNA)
