SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao is supportive of the pronouncement of President Rodrigo R. Duterte during his Monday’s State of the Nation Address to ban open pit mining.

Cadiao, in an interview on Tuesday, said as governor of Antique, she has become knowledgeable on the damage and danger posed by the open pit mining, not only of the Semirara Coal Mining and Power Corporation (SCMPC) in Semirara, Caluya town, but also by the others.

“Whatever is the dictum of the president and has been provided in the law we will support it,” the governor said.

The governor said that it cannot be denied that Antique is benefiting from the share on tax for national wealth because of the SCMPC mining activity in Semirara.

It is because of what the province is also receiving that Cadiao said she is not entirely against the mining activity in Semirara.

“I am also for mining so long as it is responsible mining,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cadiao said that she is giving high rating to Duterte, not only as Antique governor, but as chairperson of the Regional Development Committee in the Visayas and the Regional Development Council of Western Visayas because of the president’s “Build, Build, Build” program that has improved the connectivity of the Visayas and Mindanao due to road projects implementation.
