PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- Families of two policemen killed recently in an ambush in northern Palawan received a financial assistance and support package from the government on Wednesday.

Chief Supt. Emmanuel Licup, director of Police Regional Office 4B (Mimaropa), personally handed the financial aid to the families of Police Officer (PO) 1 Julpitri Gustaham and PO3 Alexander Mimbalawag who were killed in a police operation in Sitio Nagtakayan, Barangay Bato, Taytay on July 22.

He said the total cash assistance of PHP588,000 for both policemen was from the Philippine National Police Special Financial Assistance of the Office of the President under the Comprehensive Social Benefits Program for the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Battle/Duty Casualties and their Dependents with the assistance of Special Assistant to the President Christopher Go.

SAP Go was reportedly informed about the incident that befell the Palawan policemen by PRO-4B and the office of PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde.

Ito ay tulong para sa ating mga pulis who were killed in a police operation in Taytay. Hindi lang cash ito, meron din support package para sa livelihood at educational fund para sa mga anak na naiwan (This is help for our policemen who were killed in a police operation in Taytay. It’s not only cash, there’s also a support package for livelihood and the education of the children they left behind),” Licup told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

About PHP314,000 was handed to Mrs. Melanie Mimbalawag, wife and legal beneficiary of the late PO3 Mimbalawag, and PHP274,000 to the family of PO1 Gustaham.

Licup was accompanied by Palawan Police Director Gabriel Lopez in handing over the money to the families.

The two policemen were on their way to the Taytay Police Station after responding to a vehicular accident when armed men ambushed them. (PNA)
