MANILA -- Kaya Iloilo placed one foot in securing the second place finish in the Philippines Football League after dealing Global Cebu a 6-0 thrashing at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City on Saturday.

Miguel Tanton opened the scoring for Iloilo in the 24th minute, while Robert Mendy made it 2-0 just two minutes later.

However, the day belonged to hometown hero Jovin Bedic, who iced Iloilo's win with a brace, scoring in the 69th and the 75th minutes for a 4-0 count.

Substitutes Jayson Panhay and Connor Tacagni joined the fun and made goals in the 85th and the 90th minutes respectively for the final score.

With the win, Davao, Iloilo's nearest opponent in the race for second, has been officially knocked off of contention as the club can only go a maximum of 41 points and Iloilo has already notched its 42nd point in the league table.

The development leaves Laguna, which has 31 points and a match at hand, the only team in contention for the silver medal finish, which still has a bearing in terms of a spot in the Asian Football Confederation Cup next year.

Laguna will host Marikina on Wednesday as the club returns from a 10-day break before taking on Iloilo a week from Sunday. (PNA)
