Monsoon-affected families now at 345K

MANILA --- The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday said the number of families affected by heavy rains due to the southwest monsoon has reached 345,600 families or around 1,432,676 individuals.

In its morning update, the NDRRMC said these families affected are residing in 1,040 barangays in Regions 1 (Ilocos Region), 3 (Central Luzon), 4A(Calabarzon), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Of the figure, the NDRRMC said 8,471 families or 32,962 persons are being aided in 256 evacuation centers while 19,850 families or 97,261 individuals are being served outside the evacuation sites.

The NDRRMC also reported that a total of 956 houses were damaged, 248 of which were totally destroyed. The damage to infrastructure and agriculture was placed PHP57,559,093.05.

While assistance extended by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and various local government units to affected families has been placed at PHP38,085,051,86, the NDRRMC said. (PNA)
