TANZA, Cavite -- The local government here has advised the public, motorists and visitors on traffic rerouting schemes in line with the town fiesta celebration on Monday and Tuesday.

Owing to the upcoming long weekend, Mayor Yuri Pacumio and Chief Insp. Dhefry Punzalan, town chief of police, advised motorists and commuters to be patient in view of the inconvenience caused by the traffic congestion especially at the town proper for the Fiesta Caracol, a traditional street dancing and parade/procession on Monday.

The town’s Traffic Bureau expects heavy traffic on Monday between 6 a.m. to 12 noon along Daang Amaya to A. Soriano Highway, Umboy area and on Tuesday (fiesta day) at the Poblacion proper from 4 a.m. to 12 noon.

Pacumio said during the two-day festivities, heavy traffic is also expected in Barangay Tejero, General Trias City, especially along the crossing of Tejero, GenTri City and A. Soriano Road in Tanza since the village will also celebrate the Feast Day of St. Augustine on the same date.

Local parishioners and residents will gather together to celebrate the annual feast of St. Augustine or popularly venerated here as 'Tata Usting' on Aug. 27 and 28 in the town proper with cultural and religious presentations.

Most Reverend Bishop Reynaldo Evangelista, Bishop of the Diocese of the Imus Cathedral, will be celebrating mass on fiesta day as the prelate had concelebrated the mass last Friday as opening salvo for the close to a week’s religious celebration.

Among the town’s pre-fiesta festivities include the “caracol” street dancing on Saturday at the St. Augustine School grounds and the “Ginoo at Binibining Tanza 2018” coronation night at the Tanza Sports Complex beside the town hall.

Sunday’s pre-fiesta events include the “Masaya sa Tanza” Jam Session, a free concert at the park at Poblacion 1 covered court at 7 p.m. featuring the Franco band and guest performers Straptunes, Jamlaya, DJ Knightmare Fallen, Omillet, Android 18.

Organizers said the “Caracol ng Bayan” street dancing will start 10 a.m. at the town proper on Monday and the “Himig ng Pagkakaisa” concert at Poblacion 1 covered court will cap at 7 p.m. featuring five local brass bands -- Sta. Cruz Band, Tanzanian Band, Sta. Monica Band, San Lorenzo Band and St. Augustine Band in serenade band sessions.

On Tuesday (Aug. 28), hourly masses will be held starting 4 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Sta. Cruz Church here in reverence to the town’s patron Saint Augustine.

Organizers added that the fiesta celebration will be spiced up with the “toro” (bull) show and the parade of the “higantes” (giant-sized effigies) and culminate to the fireworks display at the plaza for the nightcap. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
