JAKARTA -- Marie Antonette Leviste and Joker Arroyo both made it to the individual Qualifier 2 of the 18th Asian Games equestrian jumping dressage competition at the Jakarta International Equestrian Park on Thursday.
Leviste, who won the individual silver and team bronze in the SEA Games, finished 17th with 8.50 points in the Qualifier 1, while Arroyo was 26th with 13.52 points.
The Philippines is hoping its second gold in equestrian after Mikee Cojuangco won the individual gold in Busan, South Korea in 2002.
Meanwhile, Grace Loberanes lost to Terry Kusumawardani of Indonesia, 0-10, in the women's -52kg round-of-16 in the kurash competition at the Jakarta Convention Center Assembly Hall.
Al Rolan Llamas defeated Mohammad Shehroze Razi of Pakistan, 10-0, in the first round of the men's -66kg category but he lost to world champion Maruf Gaybulloev of Uzbekistan, 0-10, in the second round.
Filipino-Swiss Christof Hofman lost to Tikek Kuralov of Kyrgyzstan, 0-10, in the men's +80kg round-of-32, while Helen Dawa bowed to Malaprabia Yallappa Jadhav of India, 0-3, in the women's -52kg round-of-32.
In boxing, Eumir Felix Marcial and Carlo Paalam won their respective bouts late Monday night to reach the quarterfinal round at the Jakarta International Exhibition Center in Kemayoran, north of Jakarta City.
The 22-year-old Marcial knocked out Macau’s Ng Kuo Kok at two minutes and nine seconds in the middleweight (75kg) division while Paalam clobbered Chinese Taipei's Tu Powei, 5-0, in the light flyweight (46-49kg) division.
Aside from Marcial and Paalam, the only other Filipino boxer who got past the preliminary round was flyweight Rogen Ladon, who placed ninth in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Ladon, a silver medalist in the 2015 Asian Championships and SEA Games, defeated Prem Chaudhary of Nepal, 5-0, in the flyweight (52kg) division.
Those who were eliminated in the first round were Joel Bacho, Neshty Petecio, Mario Fernandez, James Palicte and Irish Magno. Bacio bowed to 2017 Asian Championships bronze medalist Sajjad Kazezadeh Poshtiri of Iran, 1-4, in the men's welterweight (69kg) division.
Petecio absorbed a 2-3 loss to 2017 Asian Championships gold medalist Yin Junhua of China, in the women's featherweight (57kg) division. Yin won the silver medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics and the gold medal in the 2014 Asian Games in the lightweight (60kg) division.
Fernandez was also knocked out by Jaafar Abdulridha Ali Al Sudani of Iraq in the men's bantamweight (56kg) division.
Palicte bowed to 2016 World Youth Championships bronze medalist Shunkor Abdurasulov of Uzbekistan, 0-5, in the men's lightweight (60kg) division.
Magno fell to 2017 Asian Championships silver medalist Pang Chol Mi of DPR Korea, in the women's flyweight (51kg) division.
In squash, the men's team lost to South Korea, 1-2, while the women's team fell to Malaysia, 0-3, in the second match of the round-robin preliminaries at the Gelora Bung Karno Squash Stadium.
In rhythmic gymnastics, Marian Nicolle Medina placed 28th and Shieldannah Sabio 29th in the individual qualification.
Kazakhstan tallied 159.850 points to win the gold medal in the team all-around event. Uzbekistan took the silver with 155.300 points while South Korea scored 151.100 points to win the bronze.
In soft tennis, Noelle Conchita Corazon Manalac defeated Syeda Eraj Batool Zaidi, 4-0, in the first round of the women's singles competition at the Jakabaring Tennis Court in Palembang City. Noel Damian Jr. also won his match against Telmen Enkhbaatar of Mongolia, 4-3, in the men's singles event. (PNA)
