PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan -- The 10 Palaweño students selected to receive undergraduate and master’s degree scholarship grants at Hainan Normal University (HNU) in Haikou City, Hainan province, China have left on Wednesday.

Ma. Teresa Acda of the Palawan Provincial Administrator’s Office (PAO) said half of them will take master’s degree programs and the rest will take undergraduate studies.

“They were given by the provincial government full scholarship grants to study in HNU, which will cover their accommodations, monthly living allowances, comprehensive medical insurances and one round-trip ticket from Palawan to Haikou,” she said.

Acda said the granting of scholarships to the 10 Palaweño students was the result of an agreement on the establishment of sisterhood relationship between the province of Palawan, Philippines and Hainan, China.

It was signed by Governor Jose Alvarez and Liu Cigui, the secretary of the Hainan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial People’s Congress, in July 2017.

Acda said the 10 scholarship beneficiaries form part of the 50 Palaweños who will be sent to China each year until 2022.

The scholars are Karla Jean Seratubias Sornel (Master’s in Psychology), Julia Ann Gabo Borres (Master’s in Psychology), Jolly Dalabajan Pedida (Master’s in Psychology), Katherine Mae Erispe Cañete (Master’s in Mental Health), Nathalie Jane Samaniego Plizardo (Master of Education – Modern Educational Technology), Niña Beatriece So Linga (Bachelor in Computer Science and Technology), Gabriel Manilingan Obrique (Bachelor in Mechanical and Electrical Integration), Klienne Francia Sambire Pua (Bachelor in Mechanical and Electrical Integration), Davis Solomon Magada Servañez (Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Engineering) and Paul Christian Bundal Valones (Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Engineering).

They left for China in time for the start of the classes on September 3. (PNA)
