NFA augments rice supply in Batanes

MANILA -- Residents of Batanes island are now assured of continuous supply of affordable rice, as the National Food Authority (NFA) has replenished its stock inventory in the province with the arrival of 3,000 bags at the Basco Port on Friday.

This brings to 3,261 bags the total NFA inventory in the area, which is good to last for about a month, based on daily sales of 120 bags.

The good-quality, well-milled rice will be sold at PHP32 per kg., according to the NFA.

Another 5,000 bags are expected to be shipped to Batanes in the next two weeks to sustain NFA rice supply in the area, the rice agency said.

Being an island province and prone to isolation during natural calamities, Batanes is among the priority distribution areas for NFA rice.

Current prices of commercial rice in the province have been monitored at an average of PHP68 per kg. (PR)
