MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday kept Batanes under tropical cyclone warning signal number one as Tropical Depression “Neneng” slightly accelerated.

While occasional rains with gusty winds are expected over Batanes, PAGASA said the trough of the tropical depression will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Babuyan Group of Islands and scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms particularly over the Ilocos Provinces and Cordillera Administrative Region.

In its latest bulletin, PAGASA advised residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and in mountainous areas, to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and to continue monitoring for updates.

The tropical depression, which was last spotted 150 kilometers north-northwest of Basco, Batanes, is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Tuesday.

“Neneng” packs winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 65 km/h.

Meanwhile, at 3 p.m. Monday, PAGASA said the eye of Typhoon “Mangkhut” was located 2,255 kilometers east of Southern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of up to 150 km/h and gustiness of up to 185 km/h. It is moving West at 35 km/h.

This typhoon may enter the PAR on Wednesday, Sept 12. (PNA)
