MANILA -- The University of the Philippines (UP) on Wednesday postponed the administration of the UP College Admission Test (UPCAT) on Sept. 15 and 16 (Saturday and Sunday) due to Typhoon Ompong (international name “Mangkhut”).

In a public advisory, the UP Office of Admissions said the decision was based on consultation with UP System officials and weather experts on the latest forecast on “Ompong”, and its expected impact on northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard, including Western Visayas.

The office added that the postponement is also “in consideration of the nationwide scope of the exam that entails synchronized travel arrangements, among others, which pose undue risks to both UPCAT examinees and UPCAT personnel.”

UP said it will be releasing a new schedule of the college admission exam.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Ompong” has already entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains with lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorms are being experienced over portions of Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay and Sorsogon, which may persist within one to two hours. (PNA)
