CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela -- Amid threats of storm surge once Typhoon Ompong hits Isabela and Cagayan, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has transferred 143 detainees from Aparri to the government buildings in Lal-lo and Gattaran towns on Friday.

BJMP 2 (Cagayan Valley) assistant director for administration, Supt. Flory Sanchez, told reporters here Friday the detainees or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), have to be protected from the threat of typhoon as the BJMP facility in Aparri is near the Pacific Ocean.

“The transfer would be beneficial to them as they will be spared from the typhoon,” Sanchez said.

Jail management and penology officials also transferred detainees in 2016 when Typhoon Lawin struck Cagayan.

In a related development, the Philippine Red Cross national headquarters had deployed manpower to Isabela, Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya in preparation for “Ompong” on Friday.

The PRC officials sent Water Search and Rescue teams, water tankers, water treatment units, water bladders and tap stand, hot meals on wheels, a Humvee, a steel boat with trailer, generators, a payloader, and two trucks to complement government facilities in the three provinces. (PNA)
