CEBU CITY -- The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-7) in Central Visayas on Thursday arrested a fake dentist in an entrapment operation in Barangay Pardo here.

Arrested for practicing dental medicine without a license was Karen Sombilon Bucog, 35, of Holy Cross, Pardo, Cebu City.

Acting on the complaint of Marie Grace Brioso and the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) in the Visayas, authorities conducted an entrapment operation against the suspect at about 5 p.m.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Friday, arresting officer SPO3 Roel Leyson of CIDG-7 said Bucog was caught in the act of administering dental procedures to the complainant, who was accompanied by an undercover police officer.

Leyson said the suspect failed to present a professional license and other pertinent documents when apprehended.

Several dental tools and materials were confiscated from Bucog’s clinic as well as PHP5,700 cash, Leyson added.

Bucog, who is now detained at the CIDG-7 cell, will be charged with illegal practice of dentistry, in violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9484, or the Dental Act of 2007.

Leyson said Dr. Felix Asoy of PDA-Visayas and Supt. Marie Tony Joy Dickson of the Philippine National Police Health Service-7 (Dental) were present during the operation.

Assisting the CIDG-7 in the raid were members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 and the Pardo Police Station 7. (PNA)
