LAOAG CITY -- Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee" R. Marcos has declared the continuing suspension of classes and work in both public and private sectors on Saturday due to Typhoon Ompong.
“I think we’ve prepared to the extent that it’s humanly possible to do so, but that extent is meager and paltry. There’s very, very little you can do. Patigasan na lang ng dibdib ‘to, at talagang dasal nang todo-todo,” Marcos said Friday as she led a group of rescue workers and other volunteers in monitoring the typhoon situation in the northernmost part of the province, which is expected to be directly hit by “Ompong”.
As of this posting, the engineering workers of the province are covering the glass windows of the historic Ilocos Norte Capitol building with plywood to prevent them from breaking in case of strong winds.
Schools Division Supt. Vilma Eda of Ilocos Norte also reiterated to all school heads, teachers and personnel to prepare for the worst.
“Everything should be bolted, nailed, welded down for preventive purposes. Please mobilize the community to prepare the schools before leaving. All materials for repair and the ongoing repair sites shall be secured, too. Equipment shall be moved to higher floors, even records. Please make sure everything is secured,” Eda appealed to concerned personnel.
Occasional rains and gusty winds are now being experienced in the entire province as “Ompong” is expected to make a landfall in the Cagayan-Isabela area early Saturday morning.
The southwest monsoon enhanced by the typhoon will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains in this part of Luzon. (PNA)
