MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Saturday reported that the three roads leading to Baguio City were closed due to landslides brought about by Typhoon "Ompong."
“Nagkaroon ng landslide sa Naguilan. So, Kenon, Naguilian and Marcos Highway ang remaining access is Baguio-Aritao-Nueva Vizcaya,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar reported during the press briefing of Palace spokesperson Harry Roque Saturday afternoon at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
However, Villar assured that clearing operations are being conducted as heavy equipment were already deployed in Kenon Road and Marcos Highway and are currently being deployed to Naguilian Road.
He also reported that several roads in the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR), Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon have also been closed to traffic due to the typhoon.
These roads include Benguet, Vizcaya Road, Baguio-Bontoc Road, Abra- Ilocos Norte Road, Abra-Ilocos Sur Road, Claveria-Calanasan Road, Bicol-Lantang, Akop-Kapangan Road, Akop-Casalan Road, Banaue-Kunduan-Benguet Road.
Also included are the Bulo National Road, Mountain Province boundary Kalanan Road, Kalinga-Abra Road, Mountain Province-Nueva Vizcaya Road, Mountain province-Ilocos Sur, junction Talupin Road.
“All roads in Region 1 are passable except Tagudin-Cervantes Road. Ongoing ang clearing operations in other areas. We expect them to be open soon,” he said.
“In Region 2, four sections of Daang Maharlika are open to traffic. Santiago-Tuguegarao Road is now passable. In Region 3, six roads are closed -- Bigaa Plaridel via Malolos Road, Daang Maharlika Road, Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road, Romulo Highway, Paniqui-Camiling-Wawa Road and Olongapo-Bugallon Road,” Villar added.
