ORMOC CITY, Leyte — The body of an old man from Camotes Island that appears to have been washed away by big waves brought about by Typhoon "Ompong" was found in Albuera, Leyte on Saturday.

Albuerapolice chief, Senior Insp. Ronald Espina, identified the corpse as that o fPio Rota, 77, resident of Villahermosa village, Tudela town, Camotes Island, through an ID card found in his pocket.

Espina said villagers notified the police of a dead body they found in the seashore. The local police then contacted the Tudela police station and confirmed that Rota had been reported missing in their town since Thursday.

The police chief talked with the victim’s family and learned that the widower slept over at a friend’s house located along the coast before he went missing.

Crime scene operatives had difficulty determining if the victim sustained wounds that could have caused his death since the body was already decomposing. (PNA)
