MANILA -- Despite its exit from the country's territory, Typhoon Ompong (international name Mangkhut) will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over parts of Luzon and Visayas on Sunday.
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said occasional gusty winds and scattered light to moderate to at times heavy rains over Western Visayas, Mimaropa, Ilocos, Batangas, Bataan, and Zambales.
The typhoon, which left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday night, is now at 570 km. west of Basco, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 145 km. per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 180 kph. Moving west northwest at 25 kph, it is expected to pummel southern China and Hong Kong on Sunday night.
All tropical cyclone warning signals have already been lifted.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and western Visayas, will experience cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains.
The rest of the country, on the other hand, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, strong to gale force winds will blow over northern Luzon, and the western section of central and southern Luzon. Coastal waters along these areas will be rough to very rough.
Elsewhere, winds will be moderate to strong with moderate to rough seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
