SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – The provincial government of Antique, through its tourism office, will showcase its famous local cuisine and fashion designs at the SM City in Iloilo on Sept. 20.

Antique provincial tourism officer Jose Ramlo Villaluna, in an interview Monday, said the event will further promote the local cuisine, which tourists could look for in restaurants in the province during their visit.

“This event is also in support to the culinary tourism, which is a thrust of Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat,” Villaluna said.

He said among the cuisine they will showcase and offer for food tasting are the popular Por vida of Sibalom town, which is a native chicken cooked in a bed of salt inside a clay pot, and Bandi or melted muscovado sugar with peanuts prepared with ice cream.

“There would be at least nine selected cuisines prepared in a modern way of presenting food that would be showcased,” he said.

Meanwhile, Villaluna said the designs of the local designers who attended the workshop conducted by Iloilo’s acclaimed designer PJ Aranador last July here will also be presented in a fashion show at SM City.

“There are 10 local fashion designers who will present their craft,” he said.

He said the classy designs of the local designers were so impressive that one of them, Oliver Zulueta of Tobias Fornier, was invited to showcase at the Likhang Pamana’s Katutubo Haute Couture at Sheraton in Hong Kong on November 9-11. (PNA)
