Police assure ‘prompt justice’ for GenSan blast victims

GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Police vowed on Monday to deliver “prompt justice” for the eight wounded individuals during Sunday's bomb blast in front of a lying-in clinic here.

Chief Supt. Eliseo Tam Rasco, regional director of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-12, said they are “doing everything to bring the perpetrators of the incident before justice the soonest possible time.”

“Rest assured that we are on top of the situation here,” Rasco told the victims and their families as he visited the eight victims at the St. Elizabeth Hospital Monday.

The improvised explosive device went off at around 11:50 a.m. in front of the Vic Bonita Lying-in Clinic in Makar junction, Purok Malipayon in Barangay Apopong.

The eight victims, who were bystanders and customers of an eatery located beside the clinic, sustained “non-critical” injuries as a result of the blast.

Wounded were Marlon Yadao Orabia, 30, of Barangay Apopong here; Jeslly Yvonne Guyos, 19, of Polomolok, South Cotabato; Joana Bliss Alipio, 6, of Barangay Glamang, Polomolok; Felipa Abella Regidor, 64, of Barangay Apopong; Lally Jean Alipio, 34, of Polomolok; John Lenon Calong, 22, of Sultan Kudarat; Claire Uozoia, 24, of Koronadal City; and Anthony Faller, 24, of Polomolok.

Witnesses said two unidentified persons, who came aboard a motorcycle, were seen leaving a bag at the scene minutes before the explosion.

Rasco said he directed the newly-created Special Investigation Task Group “Bonita” to immediately identify and file charges against the perpetrators of the blast.

“I ordered the task group to expedite the conduct of the investigation facilitate the coordination of all investigative efforts among different units of the PRO-12 and the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” he said. (Allan Navarro/PNA)
