COTABATO CITY -- Police here are on the lookout for persons admitted in local hospitals and nearby Maguindanao province due to gunshot wounds emanating from a foiled robbery incident.

Senior Supt. Rolly Octavio, city police director, issued the alert order following a botched robbery incident staged on Monday by four men against a female cashier of Husky Bus Company (HBC) terminal in this city.

“Police officers who happened to be in the area, however, engaged the robbers in a shootout as the crime was being committed,” Octavio said.

At around 11:30 a.m., four armed men aboard two motorcycles blocked the path of the motorbike that HBC–Cotabato terminal cashier Rachel Cabasag was riding on, in Malagapas district and declared a hold-up.

The robbers grabbed Cabasag’s handbag and fired at Omar Dalanda, 33, motorcycle driver, hitting him in the right leg.

Two cops patrolling the area, however, heard the gunfire and rushed to the scene, triggering a shootout.

“The robbers managed to flee onboard their motorbikes towards an unknown direction but one or two of them were wounded,” Octavio said, adding that trails of blood were seen on the pavement where the gunmen positioned themselves during the shootout.

The police official said the robbers failed to get any money from Cabasag’s handbag as the bus firm’s cash collection is always deposited inside a vault at the HBC terminal. (PNA)
