CEBU CITY -- The Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Cebu has already surpassed its collection target for 2018 as early as the month of August, or four months before the year ends.

Cebu Customs administrative officer Erwin Andaya on Tuesday said BOC-Cebu collected PHP18.5 billion last August, surpassing its target for the year by 7.35 percent or by PHP1,267,910,000.

For 2018, Andaya said BOC-Cebu has been tasked to collect PHP17,246,000,000, being the second revenue-generating Customs office in the country, but as of August, its collection has already reached PHP18,513,910,000.

Andaya attributed BOC-Cebu’s early meeting of its target to the intensified collection efforts of all the ports under the BOC District 7's jurisdiction.

“The BOC-Cebu has never been remiss in its collection duties. We have always exceeded our monthly targets since January, that’s why we were able to surpass our target for 2018 this early,” Andaya said.

“In fact, we are just about a billion-peso short of our target for the month of September and we are sure to surpass our target again for the ninth straight month in a row,” Andaya added.

The Customs administrative officer said among their major source of revenue are imported machineries, electronic parts, and petroleum products.

Andaya also said no illegal drugs have been seized so far this year, except for some other prohibited goods like sex toys.

As the agency is open to constructive criticism, he also urged the public to post their comments or complaints on the BOC District 7-Cebu’s Facebook site, or visit their office in Pier 6 at the Cebu International Port Complex.

“We are not a perfect organization, but we are striving to be the Bureau of Customs every Filipino can trust,” Andaya said in closing during the weekly Association of Government Information Officers-Philippine Information Agency 7 forum at the PIA-7 office. (PNA)
