DOJ, DOH execs, 12 others cited as outstanding Bulakenyos

CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan — A total of 14 Bulakenyos -- including the secretaries of the Departments of Health and Justice, who excelled in different fields of expertise, were cited Monday in the annual Gawad Dangal ng Lipi (DNL).

“This award will serve as a challenge to all of us to strengthen our desire to help in the development and progress of our dear country,” Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra said as he represented his co-awardees in an acceptance speech during the awarding ceremony held at The Pavilion in Hiyas ng Bulacan Convention Center, this city.

“Ito ay isang karangalang ipagmamalaki namin sa aming kaapu-apuhan at ibabahagi sa aming mga kababayan sa mahal naming lalawigan ng Bulacan (This is an honor which we can be proud of to our descendants and we will share with our provincemates  in our beloved province of Bulacan,” Guevarra said.

Guevarra was joined by Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Dr. Francisco T. Duque III for health; Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Carlito G. Galvez, Jr. for public service in the field of military service; Justice Maria Theresa V. Mendoza-Arcega for judiciary; Bishop Ruperto C. Santos and Most Reverend Bartolome G. Santos, Jr. for community service; Marcelina T. Itchon for trade and industry; Aurora F. Sumulong for entrepreneur; Luceria D. Diego for professional; Nathaniel A. Cruz for arts and culture (journalism); Felicito S. Sacdalan for arts and culture (music); Jaime F. Santiago for advertising; Dr. Sergio S. Cao for education; and Edwin B. Mag-isa for agriculture.

Governor Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, for his part, proudly claimed that Bulakenyos in every generation carved the province’s name in the golden history of the country.

 “Ang mga pinarangalan ngayong gabing ito ang magsisilbing parola sa kabilang baybayin na magtuturo ng ruta upang masumpungan ng mga bagong Bulakenyo na maglalakas-loob na pumalaot sa dagat ng pakikipagsapalaran (Those who are honored this evening will serve as a lighthouse on the other coast that will teach the route to meet new Bulakenyos who will dare to venture to the sea of adventure)” the governor said.

The Gawad Dangal ng Lipi is the highest distinction being given to the notable Bulakenyos by the provincial government.

It was previously known as Natatanging Bulakenyo Award and started honoring exceptional Bulakenyos in 1974. (PNA)
