PALAYAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — The provincial government of Nueva Ecija on Wednesday sent an augmentation force to assist in the search and retrieval operations for landslide victims in Barangay Ucab, Itogon, Benguet.

Governor Czarina Umali said the contingent is composed of nine trained personnel from the search and rescue team of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

She said the team will bring various tools and equipment such as generator sets, chain saws, bolt cutters, ropes, spine boards and flood lights to the landslide site.

Likewise, the Nueva Ecija Mobile Kitchen Team consisting of 15 personnel was dispatched to support rescuers in the area.

In addition to providing three meals a day for members of the Region 3 Augmentation Force, they will be handing out hot snacks twice a day for the public.

During the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy some years back, the provincial government of Nueva Ecija, under the leadership of then Governor Aurelio M. Umali, sent a mission team to the cities of Marikina and Pasig to help residents in flood-stricken communities.

This provincial government’s assistance saved 110 lives at that time, of which 10 were infants.

The Mobile Kitchen dispatched was able to feed 15,000 people in evacuation sites in Marikina City. (PNA)
