CEBU CITY -- The National Food Authority in Central Visayas (NFA-7) assured Wednesday that there is no shortage in the supply of rice in the region.

Diocano Alojado Jr., NFA-7 assistant regional director, made this assurance during the Provincial Price Coordinating Council meeting at the Cebu Capitol.

Alojado said they have 413,000 bags of NFA rice in their warehouses now and the stock is expected to reach 750,000 bags with the arrival of the imported supply in October.

“We have enough supply of NFA rice in Central Visayas. The problem is market participation. We don’t have many retail outlets of NFA rice in the region,” Alojado said.

He urged local government units and cooperatives to get NFA accreditation and become authorized dealers of NFA rice.

Because of the sufficient supply, Alojado also assured the public that the price of rice will go down in the following weeks. (PNA)
