BAGUIO CITY -- Julia Marcos and Ailec Cervan gave Taguig its first two gold medals in the ongoing Batang Pinoy National Championship here.

Marcos bagged the gold after winning the 14-15 over-54 kilogram women's karatedo kumite tournament at the SM City Baguio Events Center on Wednesday night, beating Nesryn Balan of Zamboanga City in the finals.

On the other hand, Cervan beat Julia Bintulan of San Jose del Monte to score the gold in the 8-9 girls over-130 centimeter event.

Marcos and Cervan' victories gave Taguig something to cheer about after missing out on the gold in the kata events on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Kristiene Apaga came up short of joining Marcos and Cervan in the champions' circle, bowing to Laguna's Ilyana Marcelo in the 14-15 under-54 kilogram final.

On the other hand, Cebu Province got three golds in the girls kumite event courtesy of Janune Narboada in the 10-11 girls under-140 centimeter division, Trexie Ogoc in the 10-11 over-140 centimeter division, and Precious Belicario in the 12-13 under-150 centimeter division.

Calamba, Misamis Occidental's Mary Galsing (8-9 under-130 centimeter), Murcia's Joy Tubong-Banua (12-13 over-150 centimeter), and Parañaque's Sakura Alforte (14-15 under-47 kilogram) completed the gold medal winners list. (PNA)
