TAGBILARAN CITY -- Six men were unscathed after they were fired at by at least four unidentified gunmen in Batuan town in Bohol province on Wednesday afternoon, reports from police headquarters in Camp Francisco Dagohoy said on Thursday.

The survivors were identified as Dario Batoon, Jerry Anthony Salvador, Kenneth Palma, Rolly Ramirez, Arnulfo Bacog, and Roel Anub, all of legal age and residents of Barangay Cabacnitan in Batuan.

The town is about an hour-and-a-half away from Bohol’s capital of Tagbilaran City.

Initial investigation said the victims were walking home carrying harvested copra when they were ambushed along an isolated trail in the middle of a forested area.

The four suspects were reportedly perched on an elevated area with thick vegetation as they fired at the victims, who were alert enough to scamper for cover.

After the shooting, one of victims went to the Batuan police station and asked for assistance.

Police officers went to the crime scene and recovered empty shotgun shells and slugs of undetermined firearms.

Investigators believe that personal grudge is the motive behind the ambush after Batoon named three persons as possible suspects.

Batoon said he was the target of the three of the four suspects, who earlier killed his brother. (PNA)
