MANILA -- The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday said the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showing more Filipinos are satisfied with the government's anti-drug war has uplifted the morale of police officers.
“On behalf of the National Capital Region Police Office, I take pride on the latest SWS survey that eight (8) out of ten (10) Filipinos gives their vast approval on the war on illegal drugs is a huge morale-booster to our men who have been sacrificing their lives and limbs in going after armed and defiant drug dealers and other criminals,” NCRPO chief Police Dir. Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement.
Eleazar said the five police districts of the NCRPO, namely Quezon City Police District, Southern Police District, Northern Police District, Eastern Police District and the Manila Police District, will intensify the crackdown against drug personalities in compliance with the rule of law and the protection of human rights.
“Despite of the public’s criticism on the government’s war against illegal drugs, the Team-NCRPO through the Special Operation Units and Drug Enforcement Units will continuously implement the marching order of our President,” Eleazar noted.
The NCRPO chief also assured that Metro Manila cops will strictly respect the rights of people when it comes implementation of national law and city ordinances.
“The discipline drive has been very instrumental in keeping peace and order in the streets of Metro Manila particularly when it comes to trouble being committed by drunken persons and minors violating curfew hours. We assure the public that the implementation of National Laws and City/Municipal Ordinances will continue without any let-up in order to keep the public safe 24/7,” Eleazar said.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) also welcomed the results of the survey.
"The recent survey by SWS, revealing that Filipinos are satisfied with the war against drugs, will serve as an inspiration in the execution of our duties. It also proves that our people trust and support the law enforcers like PDEA and PNP, which are in the forefront of the war against illegal drugs," PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino said in a statement.
Aquino added that the people's satisfaction with the government's anti-drug campaign is the "ultimate reward to the hard work, dedication and sacrifices of PDEA operatives".
Based on the 2018 SWS second quarter survey, the Duterte administration scored 'very good' in its campaign against illegal drugs.
It added that at least 78 percent of the respondents said they were satisfied with the relentless campaign against illegal drugs.
On the other hand, 13 percent was dissatisfied while 9 percent was undecided, resulting in a net satisfaction rating of +65 percent.
The net satisfaction rating is a point higher compared to the same period last year, while it is 3 percent higher compared to the 2018 first quarter survey.
The number of respondents who were satisfied with the government's war on drugs in the National Capital Region, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao were 79 percent, 73 percent, 74 percent and 89 percent, respectively. (PNA)
