DUMAGUETE CITY – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Sub-port Office in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental is closing in on its target revenue collection for 2018 way ahead of schedule, having already reached the PHP2-billion mark as of September.

Dumaguete Customs Collector Fe Lluelyn G. Toring said Tuesday afternoon that as of Sept. 25, records at her office show that actual revenue collections since January 1 this year reached more than PHP2.257 billion.

This means that the BOC-Dumaguete Sub-port Office is short of only 1.63 percent or a little over PHP37.352 million from hitting its target revenue collection in the last quarter of this year.

The BOC-Dumaguete Sub-port Office’s target collection for 2018 is pegged at some PHP2.295 billion, Toring said.

“I am optimistic we will hit or exceed our target by the end of the year, considering that we only need more than PHP37 million to accomplish that, and we still have about three months to go,” she said.

The variance, she added, can be obtained with the upcoming shipments of Filoil Energy Co., Inc., and the other top importers in Negros Oriental.

Filoil is the biggest revenue contributor here, followed by Dumaguete Coconut Mills, Inc. (DUCOMI) for palm oil importation, and Pryce Gases, Inc. for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) importation.

Toring said Filoil increased its importation shipment this year, “and that has largely contributed to our increased revenues.”

Also, the implementation of TRAIN (Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion), on top of the Value Added Tax of 12 percent and the excise tax collected from Filoil for its fuel importation, has raised the revenues that the oil company has to pay the government, she said.  (PNA)
