National Cheerleading Championship kicks off 14th season

MANILA -- The National Cheerleading Championship (NCC) is back!

Themed “We Are Fearless", the country's top cheerleading competition is all systems go for its 14th season, which was launched at the TGI Friday's restaurant in Greenbelt 3, Makati City on Tuesday.

"In a real sense, the NCC is just like the sport of cheerleading. It requires courage over anxiety, resolve over doubt, and discipline over comfort. You really have to be fearless," NCC founder Carlos Valdes said as he explained this year's theme.

The country's top cheerleading competition will open with the South Luzon Qualifiers at the Robinson's Place Las Piñas City on Saturday.

Qualifying competitions will also take place in North Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The highlights of the regionals will be aired on Sportscenter Philippines on ESPN 5, while the television network will air the Nationals, the culminating event of the season, live from the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

"Our network remains steadfast in its role of supporting every Filipino athlete as they represent our country on the world stage. It was only natural for us to continue our partnership with the NCC as they pursue their vision of advancing cheerleading as a sport in the country," ESPN 5 president Chot Reyes said. (PNA)
