STA. ROSA, Laguna -- A wild dash to the six playoff spots in the 7's Football League has been brewed, as the tournament reaches the final two match days of the regular season.
Super Eagles, currently in first place, missed out on putting one foot into an outright semifinals berth after Ghana, another team chasing a Top 2 finish, held the club to a 1-1 draw last week at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig.
Laro also found itself in the thick of things in the outright semi-final race after drubbing Tondo, 6-0, also last week. The win tied Laro with Ghana in second place on points with 16 points each, although Ghana holds the tie-breaker on goal difference.
Real Amigos, 2-1 winners over Futbol Fanatics, is in fourth place with 15 points, but it also has a shot at a Top 2 finish.
Enderun dealt Matu Deportivo's outright semis a huge blow with a 4-0 stunner.
The result also gave Enderun, currently at nine points, some headway in the race for the last playoff spot, as the team, whose school is just a block away from the said venue, holds a two-point lead over Tondo and Stallion Laguna.
A full Sunday night schedule at the McKinley Hill Football Field is ongoing as of posting, but the last four games of the eliminations on Monday night will formalize the playoff picture.
Super Eagles can finally barge its way to the semifinals next week if they beat Matu, while Tondo fights for dear life against Enderun in another game. Both matches will simultaneously begin at 7 p.m.
On the other hand, Laro battles Futbol Fanatics and also-ran Western Bicutan tries to play spoiler to Real Amigos in simultaneous 8 p.m. kick-offs.
The knockout quarterfinals will quickly commence right after the four elimination round games.
The third seed after the preliminaries will take on the sixth seed, while the fourth seed lock horns with the fifth seed in simultaneous 9 p.m. starts.
The winners of the quarterfinal games will return next week to face the two outright semifinalists.
