MANILA – A few months after OFW Desks were opened in major airports in the country this year, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has assisted close to 900 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Data sent to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Tuesday showed 887 OFWs were assisted through the OFWs Desks located at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1 and 3 and at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

The report said TESDA Region 3 has yet to set up the OFWs' Desk at the Clark International Airport, while TESDA Region 11 has yet to submit a report on the status of assistance given through the OFWs' Desk located in Davao International Airport.

Records showed referral to training was the most common assistance provided to the OFWs with 479, followed by response to queries at 396.

Among the queries of OFWs were about schools' addresses and courses available.

Other assistance provided were referral for assessment and renewal of national certification.

The OFWs and repatriated OFWs are among TESDA's priorities in its free training programs.

Earlier this year, when many OFWs were repatriated from Kuwait, TESDA announced the provision of free assessment, training, support fund, food, and transportation allowance of PHP100 per day to them.

Launched in mid-May, the OFWs’ Desks aim to assist the OFWs and inform them of the programs they can avail of from TESDA. (PNA)
