MANILA – Majority Leader Rolando Andaya Jr. on Monday attributed the higher net satisfaction rating of the House of Representatives to its “multi-partisan effort” in processing priority measures that would “benefit the nation.”
Results from the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, conducted from Sept. 15 to 23, showed that the net satisfaction rating of the House rose by one grade from moderate to good with a score of +36, up by 11 points from +25 in June.
“When congressmen roll up their sleeves, work long hours, and keep the lights on until past midnight, as in the case of the marathon budget hearings, they do it not expecting any bump in survey ratings, but because it is their job. That is the primary motivation,” Andaya said.
“But if the people view such labor in a positive light, then it is bonus, one that warms our heart and inspires us to work even harder,” he added.
In a separate interview, Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also welcomed the result of the SWS survey, noting that the chamber has passed almost 400 measures in the past few months.
Arroyo said among the key legislation passed include the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, coconut levy trust fund bill, rice tariffication bill, and the proposed 2019 national budget.
“I’d like to give my acknowledgement to the hard work of the congressmen. I think it helps that there are many young congressmen. They have all the energy to carry out the long and hard hours I have been asking them to undertake and seeing them makes me feel that when their next generation takes over, it will be good and it gives me hope for our country’s future,” she said.
According to SWS, the 11-point rise in the overall satisfaction rating of the House was due to increases of 21 points in Balance Luzon, and 15 points in Mindanao, combined with decreases of two points in the Visayas, and 10 points in Metro Manila.
By class, it rose by 14 points among class D from moderate 21 in June to good 35 in September.
It stayed good among class E, hardly moving from 40 to 41. However, it fell by 16 points among classes ABC from good 43 to moderate 27. (PNA)
