BINAN — The first Copa Paulino Alcantara championship is going to the said football legend's hometown made possible by a native of the city.

Jovin Bedic struck the game-winning goal in extra time as Kaya Iloilo became the inaugural winner of the Philippines Football League's cup tournament with a 1-0 squeaker over Davao Aguilas at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila on Saturday night.

After battling to a goal-less deadlock at the end of regulation, the match seemed poise to go to the penalty shootout even if Davao lost one guy in Wesley Dos Santos due to a red card early into the extension.

Robert Mendy kept the ball in play following a tight battle for the ball at the right side of the penalty area and he found Bedic, who is just inches away from the post, for the go-ahead goal.

Aside from winning the Copa, Iloilo also booked a spot in next year's AFC Cup, its second participation since qualifying in 2016. (PNA)
