MANILA -- More than 2,000 passengers were stranded in ports across Luzon and Visayas on Tuesday as Typhoon ‘Rosita’ moves out of the country.
In its latest advisory, the Philippine Coast Guard said a total of 2,267 passengers, 139 rolling cargoes and 15 sea vessels were suspended in the ports of the provinces of Batangas, Mindoro Oriental, and Northern Quezon in Southern Tagalog; Camarines Sur in Bicol; Cagayan in northeastern Luzon; as well as Aklan and Capiz in Western Visayas on Tuesday afternoon.
Based on the PCG’s guidelines during inclement weather, no vessel of any type or tonnage shall be allowed to sail except to take shelter, as the situation may warrant, whenever storm Signal No. 1 or higher, is hoisted within its point of origin, the intended route and port of destination.
All vessels already underway shall seek shelter when any storm signal is hoisted in its immediate vicinity, along its route, and point of destination.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Batangas and Manila ports remain closed for passenger vessels operations due to severe weather caused by ‘Rosita’ which stranded a total of 1,703 passengers.
Normal operations will resume on Nov. 1, 2018.
Weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said ‘Rosita’ is now heading towards the West Philippine Sea.
Moderate to heavy rains are expected over northern and central Luzon. (PNA)
