MANILA -- Malacañang announced on Wednesday afternoon the suspension of work in government offices to give public servants enough time to travel to the provinces to observe All Saints' Day on November 1.

Memorandum Circular 51, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, stated, “To provide government employees full opportunity to properly observe All Saints’ Day and to allow them to travel to and from the different regions in the country, work in government offices on 31 October 2018 is hereby suspended from 3 o’clock in the afternoon onwards.”

Medialdea, however, said government agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services “shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.”

“The suspension of classes in private schools and work in private companies and offices are left to the sound discretion of their respective heads or employers,” he said.

All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, which fall on Thursday and Friday respectively, have been declared special non-working days. (PNA)
