MANILA -- The Philippines is hosting the 7th South China Sea Traffic Flow meeting from Nov. 5-7 in Manila, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced on Monday.

CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that this is the first time the country is hosting the meeting, adding that the 7th meeting is also the second for 2018.

"The meeting aims to review the traffic flow in the South China Sea airspace, including the flight information of regions (FIRs) surrounding Manila," he said.

FIRs include Hong Kong, Fukuoka, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh, Kota Kinabalu, Ujung Pandang and Oakland, he added.

Attendees of this meeting will also work towards optimizing the South China Sea airspace structure and ensure safe and efficient conduct of flight and aviation activities in the Asia Pacific region.

According to CAAP, there are 37 delegates attending the meeting at Savoy Hotel in Pasay City.  They are from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Asia Pacific member states and international organizations. (PNA)
