MANILA -- A former Davao City police chief is the new head of the Manila Police District (MPD) effective Thursday.

In an order dated Nov. 7, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde, designated Senior Supt. Vicente Danao Jr. as MPD's Acting District Director.

Danao replaces Chief Supt. Rolando Anduyan, who has been designated as director of the Northern Police District.

Danao was previously assigned to the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). He was Davao City's top cop during the term of then mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte.

He was also appointed by Malacañang as commander of the National Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force, which is under the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs, on April 27 last year.

Meanwhile, Anduyan will take over as NPD director on November 17. (PNA)
