DUMAGUETE CITY -- Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo has ordered the creation of a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to probe into the death of a government doctor, who was shot in broad daylight in Guihulngan City on Tuesday.

Degamo issued Executive Order No. 20-2018 on Wednesday morning, directing acting provincial police director Senior Supt. Raul Tacaca to create Task Force “AVELEX” to investigate the death of Dr. Avelex Amor, “speed up the resolution of the case and bring the perpetrators to the bars of justice.”

Amor, chief of the Canlaon District Hospital in Canlaon City in northern Negros Oriental, was gunned down along the national highway in Barangay Basak, Guihulngan City, while he was en route to Dumaguete City.

He was shot at close range as he alighted from his car to respond to the call of nature, by an unidentified suspect who fled on board a motorcycle driven by another person, police investigation showed.

Amor, who hails from Dumaguete City, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Guihulngan City District Hospital.

Tacaca, in a telephone interview, disclosed that he will head Task Force “AVELEX”, with personnel of the Guihulngan and Canlaon City police’s investigation and intelligence units and other police officials as members.

Also taking part in the investigation as part of the task force are the provincial units of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory here, he said.

According to Tacaca, they are considering a number of angles in the death of the doctor, with the motive pointing heavily towards being work-related.

Task Force “AVELEX” will convene on Friday and focus on collating all pieces of evidence, he said.

“Gagawa kami ng background check ng mga previous cases sa kanya, kasi may mga nakalaban siya, may mga nagreklamo sa kanya (We will do a background check on his previous cases because he had crossed some people while others had complained against him),” the police director said. (PNA)
