MANILA -- The Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) will be hosting the 4th Manila International Dialogue on Thursday, which will provide a platform for continuing conversations to achieve a holistic and multidisciplinary cooperation in the fight against human trafficking in the Philippines.
The dialogue, which will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center, is a gathering of Philippine authorities, Manila-based embassies, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations.
The program will kick-off the weeklong celebration of the International Day Against Trafficking this year.
It is anchored on the Manila Declaration to Enhance International Cooperation in Combatting Human Trafficking signed by 19 countries in 2015, including the Philippines.
Towards achieving the objectives of the Dialogue, three thematic Technical Working Groups (TWGs) were formed to focus conversations and develop interventions and strategic solutions in combatting human trafficking.
These TWGs include Seafarers and Fishers, Domestic and Tourist Workers, and Online Sexual Exploitation of Children.
For this year’s dialogue, the respective TWGs have identified specific policy recommendations that are necessary in addressing the existing gaps and challenges in the Philippine anti-trafficking response.
Legislators from both Houses will be present to participate in the discussion of the TWGs and to commit to champion these proposed policy agendas in Congress.
To conclude the event and to signify the legislator’s commitment as champions against human trafficking, there will be a ceremonial turnover of the policy agendas as well as a call to action by opening the Manila Declaration for signing by all concerned stakeholders. (PR)
