Meanwhile, the Diocese of Calbayog also appealed for assistance from the people to help those affected by the tropical depression.

"Ako po'y nanawagan sa mga nakikinig na kami din po ay napinsala ng bagyong Usman. Marami dito ang na-landslide, marami ang mga bahay na affected sa flooding kaya nasira po yung kanilang mga ricefield at tsaka nasira po yung iba-ibang mga bahay dito pati nga simbahan, at kombento. Nakita ko talaga ang pangangailangan ng mga tao ang food item at some nangangailangan po ng basic construction material for basic shelter (I'm calling on those listening to us that we have also been affected by the weather disturbance. We experienced here landslides, many residences were affected by flooding that destroyed their rice fields. Churches and convents here were also damaged. I witnessed the need of residents for food items and basic construction materials for basic shelter)," said Bishop Isabelo Abarquez in an interview over Radyo Veritas.

At the same time, the Catholic prelate offered prayers to those who died and their families.

“We humbly beg you Lord, to continue to guide us, to inspire us, and to bless us as we continue our Journey in the year 2019. Lord God without you we can do nothing, so we humbly beg you to accompany us in this journey, I hope that this journey in 2019 will not be tough and rough but whatever it will be, we know that you are their Lord, so please help us Oh Lord,” he said.

“And those who are victims of typhoon Usman may you continue to bless them and touch them that they may not lose hope and faith in you for it is only from you Lord that they draw strength in order to go on in spite of this calamity. Those who died may you grant eternal rest to the souls of the victim and to all of us Filipino people, I hope that this 2019 is going to be a better year for all of us. All this we lift up to you and thank you through Christ our Lord. Amen,” he added.

Authorities reported that over 70 people died while thousands were affected by "Usman."

The cyclone affected-areas include Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan). (PNA)
